Our Coaches
Our team of dedicated coaches brings a wealth of competition experience and a passion for making math accessible and exciting for every student.
Alex Chen
Alex is a junior at Torrey Pines High School. He has qualified
for AIME and participated in various math competitions.
Outside of math, he enjoys trivia and playing the drums.
Andrew Jahng
Andrew is a junior at CCA who has been doing math since 1st
grade. He has qualified for AIME four times and received a 3rd
place individual trophy at MathCounts State. Outside of math,
he enjoys playing clarinet, swimming, and hanging out with
friends.
Arhan Gupta
Arhan is a sophomore at Torrey Pines High School. He has
participated in contests like the AMC 8, AMC 10, and
MATHCOUNTS In his free time, he plays water polo for his high
school’s varsity team, runs a cooking channel on YouTube, and
takes care of the elderly.
Austin Shi
Austin Shi is a freshman at CCA. He has competed in many math
competitons, including Mathcounts, AMC 10, and others. In his
free time, he enjoys playing tennis, doing robotics, and
listening to music
Brian Su
Brian is a sophomore at Torrey Pines High School. He has
qualified for AIME and represented CVMS at MATHCOUNTS. Outside
of math, he is interested in music, programming, and running.
Chris Chen
Chris is a junior at Torrey Pines High School where he is
president of the math club. He is a 4x AIME qualifier and AMC
10 perfect scorer. He also attended the PROMYS summer program
in 2025. Outside of math, he likes programming robots for his
FRC team and playing the piano.
Diana Moon
Diana Moon is a sophomore at CCA. She has competed in several
math competitons, such as AMC series and BMT. Aside from math
she enjoys writing and hanging out with friends.
Dylan Kim
Dylan is a senior at CCA and he has been doing competition
math since middle school. He has qualified for the AIME four
times and achieved DHR on the AMC 12. Besides math, he enjoys
going to symphony concerts and watching the Padres.
Erica Dong
Erica is a senior at Canyon Crest Academy. She is a 3x AIME
qualifier, MATHCOUNTS alum, and has hosted multiple local math
contests. In her free time, Erica likes to rock climb, listen
to music, and try boba shops.
Kathy Xu
Kathy is a junior at Torrey Pines High School. She has
represented CVMS at MATHCOUNTS, and has participated in
various math competitions. Outside of school, she enjoys
playing badminton and drawing.
Kevin Yang
A junior at Canyon Crest Academy, Kevin is a 3x AIME qual and
has produced results at many regional and national
competitions. Kevin likes to swim, work out, and play the
piano.
Matthew Hsiao
Matthew Hsiao is a sophomore at Torrey Pines High School. He
was part of the CVMS Mathcounts team and particpated in many
other math competitions. Outside of math, he likes to play
piano and tennis.
Sarthak Gattani
Sarthak is a freshman at Canyon Crest Academy. He has
participated in numerous math competitions, such as Mathcounts
State, AMC 8, AMC 10, Math Kangaroo, and more. In his free
time, Sarthak plays competitive chess, achieving the National
Master title. He also enjoys playing tennis, quizbowl, and
coding.
Sepehr Golsefidy
Sepehr is a junior at CCA who has been doing math since 2nd
grade. He has qualified for AIME four times, won MathCounts
Countdown at State, and was part of the Carmel Valley
MathCounts Team twice. In his free time, he plays chess and
holds the National Master title. He also likes playing piano,
running, ping-pong, and listening to music.
Sierra Liu
Sierra is a sophomore at Torrey Pines High School. She enjoys
math, food, music, and learning about languages. Sierra has
participated in the AIME and MATHCOUNTS.
Sihu Ahn
This person worked on technical production for 4 shows in his
middle school and at least 5 in his high school. This theater
kid has attended two HSNCTS and qualified for AIME 3 times.
This regular contributor to PPT and CCAMB is in his third year
of coaching math league. For 10 points, name this 11th grader
at CCA whose name is listed above.
